Human flourishing in the modern world · San Diego + online

How do we flourish
in the age of AI?

Technology can expand what we can do. It cannot decide what makes a life worth living.

An inquiry into the human capacities no machine can practice for us: awareness, love, compassion, wisdom, creativity, community.

Modern life
The human question

More capability.
But what kind of life?

From

Life organized around output

More efficiency, yet little space to ask what truly matters.

To

Life guided by awareness

Use attention and discernment to choose how you want to live.

From

Disconnection from body and world

Life becomes increasingly mediated, abstract, and hurried.

To

Embodied presence

Return to sensation, nature, relationship, and direct experience.

From

More tools, no clearer direction

Technology answers how while the deeper why remains open.

To

Wisdom in how we use them

Let human values—not capability alone—shape our choices.

Human capacities

Some capacities grow only through living.

Awareness, compassion, courage, embodiment, and wisdom cannot be outsourced.

Science & technology

Use powerful tools without becoming shaped by them.

Study what technology makes possible—and what human life still asks of us.

How it works

Question.
Practice.
Live.

Inquiry becomes meaningful when it changes how we meet an ordinary day.

Question — examine modern life

Ask what progress, intelligence, and a good human life actually mean.

Practice — cultivate human capacities

Use meditation, yoga, and reflection to develop what cannot be outsourced.

Live — bring the inquiry into the world

Carry awareness and wise choice into work, technology, relationship, and daily life.

Lab.

Flourishing Humans.life explores a practical question: how can we humans flourish in a modern world increasingly shaped by technology and artificial intelligence?

Jiangyan Feng, PhD, is a computational biologist, Tergar-trained meditation teacher, 200-hour yoga teacher, author, and chanoyu practitioner. Her work brings science, technology, contemplative wisdom, and embodied practice into conversation—without reducing human life to any one lens.

She received the Five Mindfulness Trainings at Deer Park Monastery and later took refuge with Mingyur Rinpoche. She is the author of My Life Is a Sacred Adventure.
